Job Responsibilities

Based in Shanghai, China.

Our client is a leading US Retailers with broad coverage in the FMCG/Fashion sectors - Women's Apparel, Fashion, Sportswear, Handbag, Jewelry, Cosmetics, Menswear, Sportswear, Kids-wear, Home/Furniture, etc.

In China, the client only operates 100% E-Commerce Retailing operation, no physical retail store will be opened in China (at least in the next 5 years). In other words, if consumers would like to buy their products (Apparel, Handbag, Cosmetics, etc.), they have to visit their Online Stores and place orders. All products will be delivered to their addresses directly. 

 

Note: Similar to a Product Curator who picks the product and brand lines and understands the FMCG trend in China.

Online Stores : 

1) The company's own web address/web site in China (www.thecompanyXYZ.cn)

2) The Shop-on-Site running on JD.com and TMall.com in China

Due to their fast expansion of E-Commerce Retailing in China, an experienced Merchandising/Category executive is now needed to cover some of their assigned FMCG portfolio. 

• Develop new business partnerships with brands and platforms for responsible category

• Initiate and implement the buying strategy including assortment planning, OTB plan, site merchandising, brand mix, product mix and price structure, in order to solidify brand positioning and achieve business targets

• Identify seasonal opportunities and priorities based on consumer and industry trends

• Lead the sales strategy and support the sales performance, margin, turn and growth through systematic review of the buying plan, analyzing the results by brands and by categories regularly

• Maximize the assortment online and drive digital demand according to the company brand positioning, target and development strategy

• Manage vendor negotiations, on-boarding and brand set up processes

• Collaborate with platform category managers to identify business opportunities and drive sales

• Develop pre-season Pricing strategy specific to online

• Coach and supervise team members to enhance learning and performance to achieve business targets

• Collaborate with Design, Marketing, IT, Logistic and Operation team to achieve set goals



Requirements

Based in Shanghai.

Solid Merchandising experience in Retailing (ideally with strong exposure to E-Commerce activities)

University Graduate or equivalent.

Fluent in English. (Will report to an American executive based in Hong Kong)


• 8-10 years of "multi-branded" buying experience preferably with store environment, online/e-commerce buying and Mainland China experience

• Experience in managing a sizeable buying budget across different product categories is preferable

• Strong understanding of China customers need, direct experience in e-commerce analysis is definitely an advantage.

• Possess strong knowledge of different retail brands with strong marketing sense

• Good communication, agile, analytic skills, leadership skills, able to work under pressure to meet tight deadline

• Strategic thinking combined / balanced with operational effectiveness

• Proficiency in both English and Mandarin

• Occasionally overseas travel (to Hong Kong or US) is needed
